Muscat: Are you ready to zoom down the zipline, Oman’s longest, and enjoy majestic Musandam? If yes, come to Jabal Fitt in the Wilayat of Khasab on Saturday.

The zipline project, which was implemented after a strategic development agreement signed with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and Oman Tourism Development Company (Oman Group), is ready to welcome visitors and boost adventure tourism in Oman.

The 1,800-metre dual zipline project begins from Jabal Fitt and passes through scenic landscapes of Khor Qadi and Mokhi area over the coast of the Wilayat of Khasab.

The landing point of the zipline will be connected to the upcoming Atana Khasab Hotel, where a visitor centre will offer a host of facilities and book tourist experience, including various leisure and adventure activities that can be carried out in the area.

The project offers exceptional views of the Strait of Hormuz, complemented by the active movement of ships, yachts, and major cruise ships, making it an important touristic attraction for visitors from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman. The abundance of exceptional natural components and the cultural richness that is unique to the Governorate of Musandam, offers several horizons for future development.

Musandam zipline project represents the cooperation between the Office of the Minister of State and the Governor of Musandam and Omran Group, within the framework of implementing Musandam’s development strategy for 2040. The project will also effectively contribute in adding a variety of exciting activities for tourists, and serve as a model for entrepreneurs to create multiple assets and services that support the tourism sector, particularly adventure tourism.

Ahead of the opening of the zipline on February 25, over 700 test rides were held to check safety measures.

Work on the project started in 2022 with contractors ensuring that all components were built and installed in accordance with international safety standards and procedures, including an advanced braking system, and helmets, safety harnesses and jackets for riders.

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MoHT) is currently overseeing a host of other tourism and development projects in Musandam. A visitor centre is in the plans at the archaeological site of Daba with funding from OQ company. The project will also include a museum.

The Observer spoke to a group of adventurers who flew the zipline for a test ride. Youssef bin Abdullah al Shezawi, said: I was afraid to try the zipline at first. Then I spoke to other riders. They said they enjoyed the experience. Looking at the safety measures, I became confident and tried the zipline." Shaikha al Shehiya said: "The Oman Adventures Center is a new addition to the governorate to stimulate tourism, and a wonderful experience, especially the ride over the creek from the top of Jabal Fitt. The addition of other activities to the centre, such as paragliding and other sports, will attract adventure tourists."

Osama bin Muhammad bin Ali al Shehhi said: “My experience of the zipline was beautiful and exciting. It was like a freefall from the launch pad to the arrival platform.

The official inauguration of the zipline is expected to take place in conjunction with the launch of Musandam Winter Festival.
