South Al Batinah this year's theme for Muscat book fair

The Governorate of South Al Batinah will be the honourary guest of the 27th version of the Muscat International Book Fair (MIBF) the 10-day fair which begins on February 22, where the governorate's cultural, technical and artistic activities will be showcased, according to the organising committee of the literary extravaganza.


The annual book fair that aims to promote awareness and knowledge locally, regionally and internationally through the Fair also seeks to raise community awareness, support, intellectual and cultural movement, and increase reading rates in society, which will reflect positively on community development and revitalise the publishing movement at the global level.


"At the same time," according to the organisers, "the Fair will also aim to focus the literary, cultural, and traditional cornerstones of the Governorate while a vast display focusing on its heritage is also planned." Out of all 11 governorates, both Al Batinah North and South governorates include the largest number of wilayats in the Sultanate of Oman, Shinas, Liwa, Suhar, Saham, Al Khabourah, Al Suwaiq, Wadi Al Maawil, Nakhal, Al Awabi, Al Rustaq, Al Musannah and Barka.


Al Batinah Governorate has been an important location on the coast of Gulf of Oman as it lies between Khatmat Malaha in the north and is nestled between Al Hajar Mountains in the west and the Gulf of Oman in the east.


Al Batinah Governorate was named North Al Batinah and South Al Batinah in 2011 for the purpose of ease of administration and to ensure development activities reach every single individual in these regions.


Besides holding the traditional Omani culture and tradition, South Al Batinah boasts of an authentic regional heritage and culture.


It's is also home for many archaeological, Heritage and historic sites besides many monuments and includes Al Hazm Castle, Al Rustaq Fort, Nakhal Fort, Al Tharmad Fort, Al Awabi Fort and Castle of Bait Al Numan. Being the Guest of Honour of the MIBF 2023, a diverse range of South Al Batinah's cultural programmes appealing to the tastes of avid bibliophiles from across different categories, including academic, cultural, literary and scientific will be in display throughout the Fair which ends on March 4.
