MUSCAT: Sivan Govind, a professional tennis coach residing in the Sultanate of Oman has won in the doubles category at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Masters tournament, which witnessed the participation of more than 100 tennis players, from February 6 to 10 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
Govind, a trainer at the Indian Social Club (ISC) for the last seven years as tennis coach,claimed the title in the category of 40+ out of the five categories, which included 35+, 40+, 50+, 60+ and 70+.
Sivan combined with Krishna Kumar to defeat Harish Haridas and Rajmohan Pillai 6-1, 6-2 in the final of 40+ doubles to emerge winners.
Sivan-Kumar duo was the top seed in the category. They got a bye in the first round. The duo justified their top billing to dominate all the matches from quarterfinals to the final.
Sivan, who has been playing tennis for the last 39 years, has played at All India Inter University and won third place and as a tennis coach, he had worked in Dubai for 17 years before he moved to Oman.
He was chosen to be Kerala Number 1 and a sub junior top 5 in India as well. He also had the opportunity to work 10 years at the Dubai Tennis Championship and has many titles under his belt as he was bestowed of many career highlights as well. He had earlier played seniors ITF 35+ at Dehradun and reached doubles final, besides reaching the semifinal of the Chennai ITF 35+ category.
