BIDBID: The implementation rate at the expansion project of Al Rusail-Bidbid road has reached 60 per cent.
The 27-km expansion project, from Al Rusail-Nizwa intersection on Muscat Expressway to Al Sharqiyah Expressway intersection in the Wilayat of Bidbid, is aimed at enhancing the road capacity to absorb increasing traffic. By the end of the expansion work the road will be having four lanes in each direction in compliance with the traffic safety standards and road design guidelines.
During an inspection visit to the project, Khamis bin Mohammed al Shammakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, urged the company in charge of the project implementation to speed up the work and open the road for traffic in order to ease transportation between Muscat Governorate and the other governorates.
In comments to ONA, Al Shammakhi said that project involves rehabilitation of existing pavement layers, addition of two more lanes to meet the design standards and the traffic increase expected over the next twenty years. Other works include construction of service roads and 4 pedestrian crossings, expansion of all existing valley bridges in Wadi Al Jafnain Bridge and Wadi Fanja and construction of two new intersections on Ghala road and Seih Al Ahmar.
The project involves the expansion of the Fanja and Bidbid intersections, construction of a new bridge in the Wadi Al Dhaboun area, construction of viaducts for draining away rainwater, construction of pipelines for services among other facilities, the official said.
The under-secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, reviewed the completed phases of the projects and identified the challenges facing the project and the proposed solutions. He reviewed the workflow at the bridges including Fanja bridge and listened to an elaborate explanation about the accomplished phases and the ongoing operations.
