His paintings have graced some of the most prominent exhibitions in the country, the latest included the 52nd National Day celebration held at the Royal Opera House Muscat.

At 27 years old, Abdulwahab al Shukaili felt like he has a long way to go and as an art teacher, he experimented with a variety of techniques, including series painting, in which he would return to the same subject multiple times to capture its appearance at different times of day and in different weather conditions.

His style is characterised by his use of light, colour, and loose brushwork to capture the fleeting effects of sunlight and atmosphere.

Al Shukaili’s recent project focused on the natural landscapes and elements of Oman. He has used Wadi Shab multiple times as his muse having painted this beautiful destination twice and coming from different angles. The two paintings, predominantly golden brown with streaks of blue sky and green plantations, are distinguished by a form of realism present in Al Shukaili’s focus on detail and evident in his layering of colour and the thin yet accurate green strokes of palm leaves. In another work, Al Shukaili paints a group of children swimming in a pool surrounded by palm trees and lush green plantations. This particular work is inspired by the natural landscape of Misfat Al Abriyeen.

Al Shukaili shared that much of his work is experimental and that he has much room for growth and development. While most of his artwork is created with the use of oil paint he attempted to experiment with acrylic paint and attempted to venture into other forms of art such as portraits. In his experimental works, Al Shukaili practised different art techniques and attempted to express his inner feelings and thoughts through his artwork. He also states that not pre-planning his work allows him to endeavour into a process of self-understanding and realisation as it helps him better understand himself as an artist and helps him find his strong points and gradually discover his own unique art style.

Al Shukaili’s art journey began at a young age as he drew mostly with the use of pencils. He received much encouragement and guidance from his teachers in school and ultimately decided to pursue a career in the art field. Al Shukaili began working with colours and paint as a student in the Scientific College of Design as his professors encouraged him to expand his use of art mediums. Al Shukaili hopes to contribute with his artwork in more events and contests and aims to become a globally renowned artist.
