SUR: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, with the support of the Oman India Fertiliser Company (OMIFCO) and Oman LNG Company, will host the Omani Maritime Heritage Festival in the Wilayat of Sur from February 3 to 19. The festival aims to highlight Sur's historical and present maritime heritage, promote tourism in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, and stimulate tourism.
The Maritime Heritage Village will be one of the main attractions, showcasing the Wilayat of Sur's rich maritime history. Visitors can expect various components such as a corner dedicated to maritime heritage handicrafts, folklore sessions, a café, theatre for cultural events, folk games, and traditional sea-related performances.
The festival will also feature a simulation of a traditional sea voyage, showcasing the journey of Omani ships and the mechanism of transporting and loading goods. An Omani Food Carnival will allow visitors to sample famous Omani and international dishes with a focus on fresh seafood.
Additional events include surfing, sailing, and fishing competitions, a symposium on maritime heritage, a traditional boat race, displays of traditional Omani games and kites, and visits to famous tourist sites in ancient Sur.
