Muscat: Oman national women's hockey team are preparing to represent Oman in the Hockey5s World Cup, which will be hosted by the Sultanate of Oman in January 2024.

In this regard, Oman Hockey Association has arranged the first external camp for Oman national women team in Malaysia from January 31 to February 11.

Hanan bint Sulaiman al Harasiyah, a member of the Board of Directors of the Oman Hockey Association, said: “The national women’s team are having the first external camp to achieve several goals, preparation and raising physical and technical readiness for the upcoming tournaments. The most important event will be the Hockey5s World Cup in Muscat,” she said.

"Our aim is to prepare the national team for international matches in order to develop technical performance, earn the experiences from Asian teams, and acquire new skills in the game. Malaysia was chosen for the camp because there are no women's hockey teams in the Gulf and Arab countries to organise friendly matches”, Hanan added.

This is the first ever Oman national women's team in hockey. During the camp the head coach will evaluate the technical levels of the players during the friendly matches. Players will be divided into two teams, the first for the general hockey team and the second for the hockey 5s to represent Oman domestically and internationally.

Ola al Balushi, national team player, said: “This is the first external camp organised by the Oman Hockey Association for the women's national team in Malaysia. We are ready to face the teams in friendly matches, we will play with winning ambition, and we will make an effort to benefit from the camp.”

“We thank the Oman Hockey Association for organising the external camp, also the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for encouraging Omani women. We also seek private sector institutions to support the national team to raise the Oman flag in regional and international forums,” she concluded.
