Oman individual chess championship concludes

MUSCAT: The ninth edition of Oman Individual Chess Championship for the age groups under 16 years concluded on Monday in the Ibri Sports Complex hall in Ibri.


The competition for the clubs was organised by the Oman Chess Committee (OCC) with support from Khalid bin


Khalifa al Hatmi, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Youth in Al Dhahirah Governorate.


Al Hatmi distributed cups and medals to the top winners in various categories.


The tournament was the first tournament organised by the OCC during the current year. The competition lasted for four days, and it was held according to the Swiss system, consisting of seven rounds for five age groups.


The tournament is one of the competitions that the OCC is keen to hold annually to encourage young children to play chess.


The tournament for the current year included five categories for eight years old, 10 years old, 12 years old, 14 years old and 16 years old. More than 104 players representing various clubs of the Sultanate of Oman participated in the tournament.


In order for the tournament to be a success, several committees were formed, represented by the main committee headed by Ahmed al Balushi. The Referees Committee consisted of Musallam al Wadhahi, Khalid al Jadidi, Hamdan al Hinai and Sultan al Harasi. Hamdan al Hinai and Yasser al Maawali handled the housing and subsistence committee.



AGE-GROUP WINNERS


In the eight-year category, Youssef bin Yasser al Maawali from Masirah Club won the first place, Majd bin Abdullah al Riyami from Salalah Club claimed the second place and Hamad bin Muhannad al Balushi from Salalah Club finished third.


In the 10-year category, Abdulaziz bin Hilal al Hinai of Salalah Club claimed the first place, followed by Mohammed bin Khalid al Hadidi from Masirah Club and Saud bin Khalid al Farsi from Yanqul Club in second and third places respectively.


In the 12-year category, Al Moayad bin Imad al Buraiki from Salalah Club came in first, Ammar bin Khalid al Hatemi from Salalah claimed second spot and Al Yaman bin Nasser al Shamli from Ibri Club ended third.


In the 14-year category, Mohammed bin Hamad al Mahrouqi from Salalah Club won the first place and Mohammed bin Abdullah al Riyami from Masirah Club was second and Mohammed bin Imad al Buraiki from Salalah Club took the third place.


In the 16-year category, Abdul Rahman bin Tariq al Yahmadi from Masirah Club snatched the first place, Ahmed bin Badr al Rahbi from Masirah Club claimed the second place and Mahmoud bin Hamad al Mahrouqi from Masirah Club finished third.
