UTAS holds workshop for design, communication staff

MUSCAT: The College of Creative Industries at The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) organised an informative two-day workshop for Mass Communication and Design lecturers from six branches of the University at UTAS recently.


Around 80 Master and PhD holder lecturers from the majors of Mass Communication and Design attended the workshop. The six branches of UTAS taking part in the workshop are from Muscat, Nizwa, Sur, Ibri, Suhar and Salalah.


Dr Fatima al Amri, Dean, College of Creative Industries, started with a welcome talk. This was followed with a presentation by Dr Amna al Abri, lecturer in Mass Communication department, and Assistant Dean of Creative Industries College, UTAS Nizwa.


She explained about writing new courses’ aims, objectives and learning outcomes since most of lecturers were working on programme revision and designing new courses of different majors.


Attendees were trained on how to align the course learning outcomes with Oman Qualification Framework. Activities on how to write objectives for some courses were also held. Some of the teams displayed their accomplished tasks during the workshop. Question and answer session was held after each workshop.


Dr Sara al Bahlani, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Scientific Research , from Nizwa UTAS, who handled the assessment elaborated on how to write assessments and the best ways of choosing the right assessment for the targeted year of students and the course nature. Writing an high quality rubric for the assessments was also highlighted. At the end of the workshop, the participants were told on how to write a correct rubric and on the elements to mark the students.


The two-day workshop was effective and all participants had an effective discussion amongst each other. The workshop provided an opportunity for networking among the lecturers from the different branches of UTAS.


A feedback survey was also e-mailed to all the participants.
