Muscat: The government has initiated the first step towards the implementation of the metro rail project of the capital, which will be also the first of its kind in the country.
This tender will be part of the first consultancy study for the Muscat Metro, which has been in the planning and discussion stages for some time.
Details of the tender accessed by the Observer said, “The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) is seeking to contract a reputable consultant to support the ministry in delivering key decisions pertaining to the Muscat metro Project.”
It added, “This project is identified as a key Mass Transit requirement stipulate by various studies, and MTCIT as the owner of the project, requires this support to be done in a cost-effective, safe, and in full compliance with the standards, specifications and terms and conditions of the contract.”
The sale of the tender document closed on January 29, while the last date for the submission of the bid was February 1. The last date for the pre-bid clarification is January 31, 2023.
The upgradation of the public transport system will be key as the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning embarks on the ambitious Greater Muscat Development Plan.
The project aims to accommodate the increasing future population, attract investment, develop transportation, raise the quality of services, strengthen infrastructure and protect the environment.
