MUSCAT: Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) will celebrate on Wednesday the official opening of the Rima water treatment plant at a cost of RO 87 million.
The opening ceremony will be held by HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar.
The Rima water treatment plant represents an environmentally friendly alternative to the disposal of water associated with oil extraction, and will reduce gas emissions by 48,000 tonnes annually. Vegetation is used to purify water from oil pollutants.
The Rima water treatment plant is capable of treating about 60,000 cubic metres per day of water associated with oil production operations, higher than the project's design capacity of 40,000 cubic metres per day. — ONA
