Giving importance to transport and logistics sectors such as roads, ports and airports, Eng Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MoTCIT), said, “Studies have been conducted on the economic impact of the Muscat Metro through a special technical team established in this regard to avoid any problems in the long run.”

Apart from Muscat, the Greater Cities project will also be implemented in Nizwa, Suhar and Salalah as the government plans to introduce the Urban Planning Law in the second quarter of 2023.

According to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, Greater Muscat will include all parts of the current Muscat Governorate and parts of South Al Batinah, especially parts of Barka, covering an area of 137,218 hectares, 80 km from Muscat in the West to Barka in the East with a 100-km coastline.

The stage 1 and 2 of the project have been completed while phase 3 (planning of the structural phase) is in progress with phase 4 yet to be started.
