Masirah to take on Al Suwaiq Women’s handball final today

Muscat: Masirah and Al Suwaiq clubs eye the first edition of the Women’s Handball League Championship as both teams will meet in the final clash on Monday. The match will take place at the main indoor hall of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex at 4:00 pm.


In the major clashes of the league, Al Suwaiq managed to beat Al Bashaer by 30-10 while Masirah won against Al Bashaer 10-0. Salalah registered top result as they thrashed Al Khabourah 31-8 . Al Suwaiq won against Al Khabourah at 21-20. Al Bashaer tasted their first victory when they beat Al Khabourah 35-9 while Masirah blanked Salalah 23-11.


Five clubs took part in the league including Masirah, Al Suwaiq, Al Bashaer, Salalah and Al Khabourah clubs while Saham stayed away from the league. Masirah club topped the league with eight points while Al Suwaiq came in second with six points. Al Bashaer finished third with four points while Salalah had two points.


Sarya bint Khalfan al Hadiyah, Member of the State Council, will be the chief guest for the final in presence of Dr Said al Shahri, chairman of Oman Handball Association (OHA), and Abeer al Zadjali, board member of OHA and head of women handball committee.


Salalah club was crowned recently as champions of the second division league after beating Khasab in the final match while Ibri team finished in third place. With the triumph, Salalah club confirmed their spot in the first division league in the next season and Khasab joined as well as they ended as runners up in the league order.


The first division league is underway as Nizwa defeated Al Shabab 32-24 on Saturday while Oman club managed to earn their match against Al Bashaer 29-23. Muscat club beat Ahli Sidab in a tight clash at 17-14 while Seeb blanked Al Sahbab 28-23.
