MUSCAT: The Board of Trustees of the Partnership for Development (Offset) Program at the Ministry of Finance, led by Nasser bin Khamis al Jashmi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, visited the premises of three key offset projects currently under implementation in the Sultanate of Oman: The Center of Excellence in Advanced Communications Technology and the Internet of Things; The Modelling Center of Makers Oman, and the Advanced Cybersecurity Academy.
Also taking part in the visits were members of the Board: Dr Mohammed bin Nasser al Za'abi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defence and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Major General Khalifa bin Ali al Siyabi, Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Administrative and Financial Affairs.
The Board began its visit by identifying the goals, services and programmes of the Center of Excellence in Advanced Communications Technology and the Internet of Things.
The centre’s managers gave a visual presentation on the most important achievements of the project in its first phase, such as the “Academy of Science” project, which aims to refine the research and innovation skills of 200 male and female students.
Also in focus was the establishment of an electronic “knowledge platform” to provide remote training courses in the fields of digital transformation, software development and information technology, benefiting nearly a thousand beneficiaries, in addition to providing a training programme in Internet of Things applications targeting 15 students from Sultan Qaboos University.
The Board of Trustees also toured the Makers Oman modelling, inspecting its many features and facilities.
The centre is currently supporting and developing six startup projects and companies, including the 3D printing company, while also implementation of 26 training courses in various fields for 578 trainees.
It is also operating four initiatives in the medical field to contribute to addressing the coronavirus pandemic.
The Board of Trustees wrapped up their tour with a visit to the Advanced Cybersecurity Academy and were introduced to the most important achievements and works of the Academy since its launch. The facility currently runs 14 training programmes, which will benefit 1,523 trainees in the field of cybersecurity.
It is worth noting that the Partnership for Development Program (Offset) at the Ministry of Finance aims to transfer modern technology from committed companies and build national capabilities and competencies in all sectors, by transferring knowledge and best practices through partnership relations that link the Ministry of Finance with leading institutions and companies around the world. - ONA
