To bring more transparency and simplicity, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has announced new guidelines for citizens seeking treatment abroad.

The applicant must attach a medical report from a government hospital in the Sultanate of Oman (the date of its issuance does not exceed the last six months). It should also have a recommendation from patient’s physician that treatment, which is sought by the patient, is not available in the country.

MoH added that after presenting the application to the National Committee for Treatment Abroad, the patient will be informed of the committee’s decision by e-mail or WhatsApp within 14 working days.

The Directorate of Treatment Abroad Affairs strives to provide the best foreign medical treatment at MoH expense.

The ministry has activated the WhatsApp feature to easily receive and send documents and requirements to the committee.

For treatment abroad, the following categories of Omanis are eligible: expatriates married to Omanis, Omanis married to expatriates, and women and children of an Omani woman from a foreign husband.

The department shortlists patients for treatment abroad after conducting quality check of healthcare institutions.
