Even though unstable weather conditions forecast is there for two days, the capital was relatively dry compared to Tuesday.

The cloud cover continued to prevail in most of the northern governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, including Musandam, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, North and South Al Batinah, Muscat, North and South Al Sharqiyah, amid reports of a likely low-pressure system next week.

Due to the wind movement, there is also a possibility of rising dust in Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates.

Al Amerat, which was spared on Tuesday, received heavy rains by late afternoon. The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority urged people not to risk crossing wadis and to adhere to warnings and follow instructions.

The Aqabat Qantab road was closed to traffic as a precautionary measure for public safety.

Night temperatures in Muscat, Suhar and Sur are expected to drop under 20 degrees Celsius in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the Water Resources Monitoring Department said that 52 dams in the country stored 73 million cubic metres of water in 2022, which helped raise the levels of aflaj and wells, besides providing some protection from floods.

According to the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre, upper air troughs are likely to continue until Thursday though the current weather situation will start gradually weakening.

ROP has been operating regular patrols to monitor traffic flow and ensure road safety. The Royal Oman Police (ROP) exerted great efforts handling heavy rains that lashed some wilayats of Muscat Governorate over the past two days causing the overflowing of wadis.

Major Fahd bin Said al Kalbani, acting director of the traffic department at the Directorate-General of Traffic, said: “The ROP is closely monitoring roads to ensure smooth traffic movement and safe driving for motorists. We are coordinating with the relevant authorities to ease the traffic movement following the blocking of Bausher-Al Amerat mountain road.”

The Directorate-General of Traffic called on motorists to exercise caution and follow the weather updates issued by the relevant authorities. It advises the public not to risk their lives by crossing overflowing wadis.

Meanwhile, the operations centre of the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority received 30 reports of incidents related to heavy rain. A total of 51 people were rescued on Tuesday and no casualties were reported so far. — ONA
