Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) warned of disruption of some traffic signals due to rains of varying intensity in some states of Muscat Governorate, and called for caution while driving.
Parts of Muscat Governorate are receiving heavy rains due to the air trough of low pressure affecting the Sultanate of Oman from Monday to Wednesday
The governorates of Muscat, South Al Batinah, North Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, Musandam, Al Dhahirah, and Al Buraimi are witnessing sporadic rains of varying intensity that may lead to flowing wadis.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Port Sultan Qaboos recorded the highest amount of rain, amounting to 72 millimeters, followed by the city of Muscat, with 39 millimeters, and the Muscat International Airport station, with 27 millimeters.
The Bausher - Al-Amerat road has been closed to traffic, while traffic signals below Al Khuwair and the Qurum bridges have been stopped.
The Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) rescue teams in Muscat have been dealing with several reports of vehicle detention in wadis. Over 51 people were rescued and no injuries were recorded.
Due to the continuous rains of varying intensity in the Governorate of Muscat, and to ensure the safety of everyone, ROP urged people not to go out in these circumstances and stay home until the situation improves.

Wednesday to Thursday:
The Trough of low pressure will continue affecting the governorates of Musandam, north at Batinah, south Al Batinah, at Buraimi, Al Dakhilyah, Muscat, Al Dhahirah, and North al Sharqiya and South al- Sharqiya with a chance of rain showers occasionally thundershowers will likely cause flow of wadies. The weather event will start gradually weakening by Wednesday night with continuing chances of scattered rain until Thursday morning.
Expected Impacts:
1. Rain showers from 10-60 mm will likely cause wadies flows.
2. Fresh downdraft winds with speeds of 15 to 35 kt (30-70km/h).
3. Sea state will be moderate to rough with maximum wave height will be between 2 meters to 3.0 meters along the coasts of Musandam governorate and the coastal areas of the Sea of Oman
