‘SSR Ghazwan’ clinches Oman Derby Cup 2022

Muscat: The horse ‘SSR Ghazwan’ owned by the Royal Cavalry snatched the Oman Derby Cup in the eighth round in the tenth race organised by the Royal Horse Racing Club at Al Rahba Racecourse in the Wilayat of Barka.


The race was held under the auspices of Dr Ahmed bin Nasser al Bakri, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Agriculture.


The race included eight runs, six rounds devoted to purebred Arabian horses and two rounds to purebred horses. The eighth round was devoted to the Oman Derby Cup.


Al Mu’tasim bin Said al Balushi on ‘SB’ won the first round ‘Wadi Al Khoudh’ Dam race for purebred Arabian horses for local production for a distance of 1,200 metres. ‘SB’ is owned by Saad bin Suhail al Mukhaini and trained by Youssef bin Mohammed al Hajri.


Maicon de Souza on ‘Al Afiyah Sur’, owned by Hilal bin Khalfan al Hasani and trained by Walid bin Mohammed al Yahya’i, came second. Yahya bin Juma al Hamdani on ‘NAS Al Shams’, owned by Shaikh Harib bin Suleiman al Nabhani and trained by Nasr bin Hareb al Nabhani, finished third.


‘Ace Kayf’ clinched the second race ‘Wadi Dayqah’ for purebred hybrid horses for a distance of 1,200 metres. Amer al Rasbi rode ‘Ace Kayf’, owned by Khalifa al Jahdami and trained by Zahran al Jahdami.

The ‘Palmetto Dunes’, owned by Samir al Hashemi, came in second place. It was ridden by Al Siyabi and trained by Othman al Hashemi. ‘Creek Horizon’ owned by Ahmed al Naabi, and rode by Moanis al Siyabi finished third. Mohammed al Balushi was the trainer.


In the ‘Wadi Khasab’ race for purebred Arabian horses for a distance of 1,600 metres, ‘Ahtar’ owned by Abdullah bin Amer al Mashaikhi bagged the top honours. ‘IH Zakher’ owned by Idris bin Hammoud al Balushi took the second spot and ‘Abas’, owned by Mohammed bin Salem al Rasbi came third.


‘Faith and Fortune’ dominated the ‘Wadi Tanuf’ race for purebred horses for 1,600 metres to finish on top. It was owned by Mohammed bin Amer al Mashaikhi and rode by Al Mu’tasim bin Said al Balushi. Marwan bin Hammoud al Balushi was the trainer.


In the ‘Wadi Al Sahtan’ Race for 1,600 metres, ‘Jathjath’, owned by Sultan bin Saif al Busaidy, claimed the top honours.


‘Valentino’ clinched the top spot in the ‘Sahlanot Valley' race for 1,600 metres. It was owned by Mohammed bin Saud al Khalili, led by Ahmed al Siyabi and trained by Hussein bin Ali al Sunaidi.


‘Hilal Muscat’ snatched the ’Wadi Al Maiden’ race for 2,000 metres. It was owned by Khalid bin Mohammed. Ibrahim bin Khamis al Hinai was the rider of ‘Hilal Muscat’, trained by Hamad bin Said al Saeedi.


‘Nino horse’ dominated the ‘Wadi Al Jizzi’ race for purebred Arabian horses for 2,000 metres. Al Mu’tasim bin Said al Balushi won the race on ‘Nino’, owned by the Royal Cavalry and trained by Fahd bin Abadi al Hajri.
