Royal Camel Corps (RCC) concluded its participation in the Camel and World Cup 2022 held at the Camel Racecourse in Al Shahaniya in Qatar. It also participated continues in the seventh edition of the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival in Al Sayahed, in Riyadh where both skills of dealing with camels and the traditional Omani arts related to camels were displayed.
The participation of the Royal Camel in this event came in response to the invitation of the Arab Federation for Camel Racing (Mahari), which coincided with the Fifa World Cup, with the aim of introducing camel sports to visitors and residents of Qatar.
On the first day, Royal Camel Corps presented a number of skills, including a display of camels standing and on knee while using ropes. Camels chariots displayed the flags of the countries participating in the World Cup , and the flags of the member states of the Arab Federation for Camel Racing.
The second day witnessed the presentation of Al Ardha , which is an authentic Omani heritage registered in the UNESCO Intangible World Heritage List for Humanity.
Members of the RCC also presented various skills in camel riding..
On the last day of the event, the RCC presented a variety of skills including putting camels to sleep, and showing riding skills.
Najeeb al Balushi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Qatar attended the festival with Hilal al Waeli, Head of Horse and Camel Affairs, Royal Farms and Gardens.
The event witnessed staging of the first camel handball tournament, which was won by Qatar.
On the sidelines of the event, the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies and the Arab Union for Camel Racing have signed a MoU to set an International Academy for Camel.
The organisers, who had helped in making the event successful, were honoured on the closing day along with the three teams that won the top places of the competition.
Hilal said that the participation of the Royal Camels Corps reflects its high levels of skills.
Speaking about the significance of the event, Abdullah al Khawwari, President of the Arab Union for Camel Racing (Mahari), said that holding this event in coincidence with the Qatar World Cup was a great opportunity to introduce this sport to the audience.
Dr Hizam al Maqarih, Secretary-General of the Arab Union for Camel Racing, expressed his happiness with the success of the event as attracted good turnout. He praised Royal Camel Crops for its distinguished performances and skills.
Heads of camel racing federations, praised the Sultanate of Oman’s distinct role in reviving the camel racing sports, and commended outstanding shows performed by the Royal Camel Corps.
The RCC also took part at the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
