MUSCAT: The Ministry of Information, represented by Oman Daily, on Wednesday held a symposium themed “This nation and this paper” at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC).
The symposium was held within the framework of celebrating the 50th anniversary of issuance of Oman newspaper’s first edition.
The event aimed to highlight political, cultural and social contexts coinciding with the establishment of Oman Daily newspaper.
It also analysed the contents of the newspaper and its press discourse in various fields, as well as different editing characteristics.
Testimonies of some journalists and intellectuals who were part of the newspaper’s march were recorded during the event.
The symposium covered several core components, namely "The political, cultural and social contexts in the Sultanate of Oman during the period of the founding and development of Oman Daily newspaper", "The institutional development of Oman Daily newspaper (1972-2022)", "Oman newspaper's political, economic, cultural and social discourse (1972-2022)" and “The editing and designed of Oman Daily newspaper (1972-2022).”
The first publication of the newspaper was issued on November 18, 1972. First it was issued once a week, then it changed to become twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays). In 1980, it was published on a daily basis except on Fridays, then it fully turned into a daily newspaper in 1984. -- ONA
