MUSCAT: Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al Busaidy, Minister of Interior, held a meeting on Thursday with governors. He commended the efforts undertaken by the governorates to upgrade the level of services rendered to the public.

During the meeting, joint issues of concern to the governorates were discussed. The meeting looked into the process of developing the functions of governorates and consolidating the administrative and technical capacities of each with a view to activating decentralisation.

The minister stressed the importance of benefiting from the results of the national initiative of the Centre for Development of Local Administration, based at the Royal Academy of Management (RAM). The initiative, which concluded on December 7, laid emphasis on upgrading the capabilities and skills of employees at all levels.

The minister also spoke about ongoing preparations for electing members of municipal councils (Third Term). He said that the process witnessed major progress due to the use of electronic systems during all electoral stages. He urged all to deepen community participation in municipal action and governorates’ development.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the minister prayed to Allah the Almighty to perpetuate the bliss of growth and prosperity on Oman, under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. He wished the governors further success in performing their missions. - ONA (PHOTO ON P2)
