Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman won first place in the secondary stage category in the Shaikha Fadia Al Saad Al Sabah Competition in Kuwait. The project of Maria al Jabri and Qabas al Ghafri from Sawda Um Al Mumineen School for Basic Education in Al Dhahirah Governorate won the prize for their study on using rice water as liquid fertiliser for the growth of lemons. The project was supervised by Fakhriya al Balushi.
The Sultanate also won first place in the middle stage category for the project “Strengthening the Greenhouse System” by Amna al Jahafi and Shahd al Jahafi from the Al Jaza School for Basic Education in the Al Sharqiyah North Governorate. It was supervised by Maheera al Jahafi.
Expressing her joy of winning first place, Qabas al Ghafri, said, “It is a great honour for me to represent the Sultanate of Oman in this competition and in which I won first place in the Arab world. Through my participation in this competition, I increased my self-confidence, got beautiful and unforgettable memories, learned how to write scientific research accurately and gained many useful information."
Maria al Jabri said, “I feel joy and pride that we were able to achieve this great well-deserved accomplishment, especially with the increase in competition this year due to the accession of Arab countries in this edition. Through this experience, I became acquainted with the methodology of scientific research and how to conduct scientific experiments.”
Shahd al Jahafi said, “I feel proud of this achievement. Participation in the competition, we gained many experiences, especially since we were ambassadors of our country." Amna al Jahafi said, “This competition gave me a lot of experience and information about how to work with the Steam method, in addition to how to search for problems and find several solutions to them and work within a team.”
