HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, directed to launch the Oman Equestrian Festival 2022 at Al Rahba race course in Barka on December 7.
The inaugural equestrian festival will be part of the country’s celebrations of the 52nd National Day. The event will be organised by the Oman Equestrian Federation (OEF) incorporated with the Royal Cavalry.
The first edition of Omani Equestrian Festival will include international Olympic equestrian competitions and activities, horse racing, show jumping, tent pegging and endurance race, in addition to traditional horse race 'Al Arza' and other equestrian sports activities.
This is the first time in Oman to that all equestrian competitions are brought together in one event.
Sayyid Munther bin Saif al Busaidy, OEF Chairman, stressed that “the first edition of Oman Equestrian Festival 2022, comes within high interest of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik in equestrian sport. In furtherance of this interest, HH Sayyid Theyazin instructed to hold Oman Equestrian Festival in order to continue the government support to raise the level of equestrian sport in Oman."
“The equestrian festival comes within the country’s celebrations of the 52nd National Day. Also it coincides with the football World Cup activities which will be held in Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre in Muscat, which have economic and tourism impact, where there will be valuable prizes for the winners,” he ended.
Dr Sarhan bin Salim al Zaidi, Director-General of the Royal Cavalry, said: “Horse racing and equestrian sports are considered one of the components of Omani history, and it has all the attention from the government. The first edition of Oman Equestrian Festival 2022 will be under the auspices of HH Sayyid Theyazin as kind of encouragement to horse racing and equestrian sports.”
The Director-General of Royal Cavalry explained, "the Oman Equestrian Festival 2022 is witnessing great cooperation between the Royal Cavalry, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and the Oman Equestrian Federation. The horse races will include five races, four races devoted to purebred Arabian horses, and one round to purebred hybrid horses.”
