Muscat: Oman Oxy football team won the Fifco World Corporate Champions Cup 2022 after an exciting 1-0 victory over the Bangladeshi team Band Holding in the final match in Dubai Sports City.
Oman Oxy team came through tough stages of qualifying. The preliminary qualifiers included Swiss, Mali and UAE.
Oxy started by beating Swiss team 4-1 and then defeated Mali team with a score of 4-2. The Oman team lost to the UAE health 3-2 but qualified to the quarterfinals as second placed from the group.
In the quarterfinals, Oxy beat Saudi Arabia team STS, who were one of the favourites for the championship title, with a 2-1 score to qualify for the semifinals.
Oxy and the UAE health team were 2-2 after regulation time in the semifinal. The Oman side marched into the final after beating the UAE team in the penalty shoot-out.
The Oxy team qualified to represent the Sultanate of Oman after winning second place in the Ooredoo Business Fifco World Cup qualification competitions, which was held in Oman under the supervision of the Oman Football Association and organised by Sportsmania Oman.
The Oxy Oman team players include Juma al Obaidani, Khaled al Busafi, Wael al Maamari, Abdullah al Zadjali, Said al Browni, Musab al Habsi, Yahya al Ruqaishi, Hamad al Buraiki, Ahmed al Husseini and Musa al Ismaili, while the technical staff consisted of the coaches Raed al Harmali, Saif al Harthy and administrator Nasser al Silti.
