The Oman Desert Marathon (ODM) team is organising a charity 5 km night race at Ghala Dunes on November 18.
The night race is being organised in support of Environment Society of Oman.
“We believe Oman Desert Marathon is an event that joins many people from the local community and that expresses the love of the people for Oman. Giving back to the community offers a sense of accomplishment and pride that are hard to achieve elsewhere. For that reason, contributing to the community is important to us and we decided to do so by supporting the Environment Sociery of Oman,” Said al Hajri, race owner and director of ODM, said.
“Our purpose with the night race is to raise awareness and motivate participants to help protect and conserve our natural heritage,” Al Hajri added.
The 5 km race in Ghala gives an opportunity to enjoy the run under the stars, giving an idea of how to run in the desert at night.
The Oman Desert Marathon Classic – 165 km race has a stage in the night, and the race in Ghala Dunes will act as a prelude to the night desert experience.
Only participants older than 15 years old can participate. An adult must accompany participants younger than 18 years old.
The eighth edition of the Oman Desert Marathon will take place from January 21 to 24, 2023. It has been recognised by the International Trail Running Association (ITRA), so that the athletes will get international ranking points for their participation.
