Oman will face Korea Republic, Tajikistan and Jordan in Group C after Wednesday’s official draw of the AFC U20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2023. The prestigious Asian event will take place during March 1 to 18, 2023. Sixteen teams distributed into four groups will be vying for the title while the top two from each group to secure spot in the quarterfinals.
The hosts Uzbekistan were drawn in Group A which comprised of Indonesia, Iraq and Syria teams.
Group B featured Qatar, Australia, Vietnam and Iran. Defending champions Saudi Arabia will be vying for the quarterfinal berths in Group D which included Japan, China PR and Kyrgyz Republic.
The AFC U20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2023 will act as qualifiers for the Fifa U20 World Cup 2023 as top four in Asia will secure tickets in the top showpiece event. The event will be hosted in Asia in Indonesia from May 20 to June 11.
In last September, Oman hosted Asian Group G qualifiers in Salalah at Al Saada Stadium. Oman boys progressed to AFC U20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2023 finals after they had topped the group with six points.
The national team boys ended their qualifying campaign with two victories against the Philippines and Thailand and suffered a loss against Afghanistan 1-0. They scored four goals and conceded one.
The team, coached under supervision of Spaniard David Gordo, will look for a top display in the forthcoming Asian assignment. It is expected the national teams committee at OFA will announce soon the team’s preparatory programme for the Asian event.
