Salma awarded Knighthood by President of Italy

Muscat: Salma bint Ali al Hashmiyah, Board Member of the Omani-Italian Friendship Association, received the highly prestigious decoration of Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy on Saturday This esteemed order of chivalry is bestowed by decree of the President of the Italian Republic, on the recommendation of Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, in acknowledgment of those individuals who have achieved extraordinary results in the preservation and promotion of bilateral relations between Italy and other nations.


Federica Favi, Italian Ambassador to Oman, presented the Knighthood, on behalf of the Italian President saying: “We are delighted to recognise the significant and enduring contribution Al Hashmiyah has made to strengthening the social, cultural, sporting and business ties between Italy and the Sultanate of Oman.”


Al Hashmiyah, Vice President of Marketing at Al Mouj Muscat SAOC and a Board Member of the Mazoon Dairy Company, has drawn on her considerable business acumen to create new networking, information exchange and investment opportunities for the benefit of both nations. Beyond her work with Omani-Italian Friendship Association, Al Hashmiyah has been instrumental in establishing several successful initiatives, ranging from youth exchange programmes to fundraising for pandemic research at an institute in Rome, and establishing opportunities for bilateral trade.


Commenting on the award, Al Hashmiyah said: “I am deeply honoured to have been awarded the decoration of the Order of the Star of Italy. It has been a great privilege to be able to contribute to the commercial and cultural exchange and fruitful cooperation between our two great nations.


“I very much look forward to building on this valuable relationship, as we continue to foster beneficial opportunities for our youth, our business communities and our cultural institutions.”
