Oman science festival from October 10-15, with 70 corners and many activities

Muscat: The third edition of Oman Science Festival will take place at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) from October 10 to 15 under the theme titled ‘With science we meet again’.


More than 100 government, private and civil institutions will participate in the august event, which is happening after a gap of two years due to Covid-19 pandemic.


Dr Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education for Education and Chairman of the Main Committee of the festival, said the event aims to create scientific temperament among students of different age groups and encourage them to think in right direction when it comes to learning of science.


“It is a mirror that reflects the ambitions of the Oman Vision 2040 and the national strategy for innovation so that the Sultanate of Oman emerges as a model destination among the 20 countries in the innovation index by 2040,” said the Education Under-Secretary during a press conference on Monday.


“The festival also witnesses the participation of the military authorities in the Sultanate of Oman. It is a meeting point of science and scientists, which will be held over a period of six days from October 10 to 15 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre. It will also combine more than 32 scientific pillars with 436 activities,” he said.


Dr Mai bint Said al Azriyah, Head of the Scientific Committee of the Festival, gave a presentation on the vision, goals, activities and pillars of the festival.


“This year’s festival will be distinct from others in terms of space, number of events, participating institutions, national and international delegations. Institutions and individuals are eager to attend events and the third edition of the science festival will see participation from various institutions, including educational, military and private sector,” she said.

The festival’s discussion sessions will include 12 international and seven national speakers. It will have 70 corners and many activities in order to demonstrate science in an innovative way.


"Seven scholars and experts from reputable international institutions will participate in the festival with their experiences and various workshops, and the festival will witness 436 events suitable for specific age groups divided into 6 days," said Dr Sulaiman bin Abdullah al Jamudi, General Director of the General Directorate of Educational Supervision. He is also head of Media Committee of the festival.


The festival is targeting school students, students of higher education institutions, educators, parents, government, private and military institutions, civil society institutions, scientists, researchers, specialists and academics, and those interested in science, from different countries.


In addition, in order to give chance to students from other governorates that are far from Muscat, transportation will be arranged to bring them to the festival.


It will also include events including scientific exhibitions, interactive scientific workshops, lectures & scientific dialogues, scientific competitions, and scientific theatre. The festival aims at developing talents and qualifying them for excellence within the world of science.
