Gulf Drilling LLC (GD), the Drilling arm of Mohammed Al Barwani Petroleum Services, has become the first oil and gas Service Company in Oman to receive the newly updated American Petroleum Institute (API) Q2 Edition 2 certification, a prestigious quality certification that is quickly becoming the new go-to standard for oil and gas companies worldwide.
Salim al Harthy, CEO of MBPS Worldwide, said, “This certificate is significant because the API is one of the highest global standards in our field. Oil and gas clients across the world are adopting it as their requirement. Getting the API Q2 at this stage means that we are very well positioned to support Oman’s Oil and Gas companies and drive the Omani economy forward. Additionally, it highlights Oman’s local competencies and our professionalism in the global market. The Q2 was also a requirement for Wave II mobilization of our drilling contract with PDO. By achieving it we have demonstrated our commitment to our clients. “Receiving this certification took us 18 months for the preparatory work. Many companies around the world are capable of implementing their own internal standards, but fitting the global standard is a rigorous practice. I am proud of our collective efforts and management support towards the common goal.”
MBPS is one of only 62 companies worldwide that received the spec 2 certification as of this date. API certifies oil and gas service providers for the safety, consistency, and interchangeability of their products.
Rejoy Shamsudeen, QHSSE Manager for MBPS Worldwide, said, “API Specification Q2 is the world’s most advanced industry certification standard for oil and natural gas service providers and is only awarded to facilities that can demonstrate the highest quality of outcomes including competency of personnel, systems, and processes. In order to receive this certification, Gulf Drilling needed to make remarkable changes to almost all its processes to fit the API Q2 standard, and to create new procedures. This included training our people including +500 Omanis in the worksites to the new standards."
Salim al Harthy added: “The Q2 certification is in line with our own commitment to focus on being methodical and system-driven, and to be the preferred oilfield service provider in the region.”
