MUSCAT: Muscat Municipality will embark on an expansion of Al Ansab-Al Jifnain road (phase 2) in the first quarter of 2023.
The project aims at boosting the efficiency of the road by constructing three lanes in each direction from Falaj Al Sham in the Wilayat of Bushar to Al Al Jifnain in the Wilayat of Seeb as well as converting existing roundabouts into tunnels and flyovers.
The project, the implantation of which lasts for 36 months, aims at improving traffic efficiency at various timings, enhancing economic activities between the governorates of Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah and North Al Sharqiyah, reducing distances and serving urban areas and residential schemes adjoining the road.
The project involves boosting the efficiency of the three existing roundabouts stretching along Al Ansab road from Muscat Expressway to Falaj Al Sham area by constructing intersections under flyovers.
As per the details of the project, Al Ansab roundabout will be replaced by a flyover with signal-controlled intersection underneath. In addition, the first Falaj Al Sham roundabout will be replaced by a flyover and a signal-controlled intersection. The second Falaj Al Sham roundabout will be replaced by a flyover with a tunnel underneath.
The project also involves construction of a new 15 km three-lane road from Falaj Al Sham in the Wilayat of Bushar to Nizwa road intersection in Al Jifnain in the Wilayat of Seeb. The road will have four signal-controlled intersections with flyovers and tunnels underneath. This involves constructing a three-lane flyover with a signal-controlled intersection below it in Al Awabi. It also involves construction of an intersection underneath a flyover prior to the cement plant and the removal of the existing roundabout and another intersection at the entrance of Al Masfah industrial area. This is in addition to the construction of an intersection underneath a flyover in Al Jifnain as well as the rehabilitation of some service roads aligned to the main road and construction of drainage channels and road protections. — ONA
