Wind speeds drop in Al Wusta, Dhofar: Met

Muscat - Oman meteorology in its latest update said that the spread of medium and high clouds continues over most of the governorates, with rain clouds off the coasts of South Al Sharqiyah Governorate.


A relative decrease in wind speeds has been recorded over the desert areas of the Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates.


Earlier, Oman meteorology met that the deep tropical depression is heading to the northeast towards the Pakistani coast.


"Scattered rain will fall on parts of Al Wusta and Dhofar, with the continued flow of clouds associated with the tropical situation in the south of Al Sharqiah, North Al Sharqiah, Al Wusta, Dhofar, and parts of Al Dhahirah and Al Buraimi," Oman Met said.


"There is also the possibility of dust and dust rising in desert and open areas due to wind activity."


The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology have notified motorists using #Adam_Salalah road to be cautious due to the low visibility because of active sand winds & delay unnecessary trips until the road is clear and visible.


The ministry also decided to stop the maritime traffic and the ferry transportation service to and from Masirah, until the weather conditions improve.


The Environment Authority has called on industrial facilities, ports, factories, and companies to secure hazardous materials in safe locations.

The impact of the depression will start to affect the coastal areas of the Arabian sea with a chance of isolated rain and occasionally thundershowers with priority between Ras al Had in south al Sharqiya to Ras Madrakah in al Wusta Governorates also over al Hajar mountains, especially over Governorates of Al Dakhilyiah, South al Sharqiyah, North al Sharqiyah, Muscat, South al Batinah and Al Dhahirah, in addition, the desert areas of Al Wusta and Dhofar Governorates with rain varying in intensity estimated between 15 and 60 millimeters.


Monday:


Chance of isolated rain occasionally thundershowers over governorates of South Al Sharqiya, north AL Sharqiya Al-Wusta, Dhofar, Muscat, Al-Dakhilyia, South Al-Batinah, and al Dhahirah with rain varying in intensity estimated between 10 and 40 millimeters.


The expected impacts from Saturday till Monday:


'Accumulation rainfall between 10-60 mm associated with flash floods and the chance of hail falling.


• Fresh winds between 20-40 knots (40-80 km/h) may cause blowing unstable objects.


• Decrease in horizontal visibility due to fresh downdraft winds may cause blowing dust.


• The sea state will be moderate to rough along the coastal areas of the Sea of Oman with maximum wave height ranges between 2-3 meters and rough along the Arabian Sea coasts with a maximum height of 4 meters.


Civil Aviation Authority advises all to take precautions during rain and wadies and to check the sea state before sailing and follow the issued weather bulletins & reports.
