MUSCAT: Rains of varying intensity are been reported from several governorates of the Sultanate, especially in the North and South Batinah, with the possibility of wadis running in some areas.
But the weather condition is expected to stabilize in some governorates from this evening, including in the governorate of Muscat and South al Sharqiyah, according to officials at Oman Meteorology.
Meanwhile, the National Committee for Emergency Management has denied reports on the state of emergency and evacuation of residents living near the coast.
It confirmed that the sub-committees for managing emergency cases will be in place until the end of the expected effects of the depression.
There are chances of rain of varying intensity in the northern governorates, including in Muscat and Al Dhakilyah.
The Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) confirmed the readiness of its departments to deal with the expected effects of the weather situation.
Authorities have warned people from crossing wadis during heavy rains and said legal procedures will be initiated against them.
The Law stipulates that any person who intentionally crosses the wadis in such a way as to endanger his life or the life of other passengers with him or others shall be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months and a fine not exceeding RO 500. Meanwhile, officials in the medical response sector have affirmed the sector’s preparedness to handle public health situations that might occur as a result of the low pressure which is due to make landfall in Oman.
An action plan is in place to ensure the continuous operation of all health establishments to address the situation in the areas which might be affected.
Dr. Rashid bin Hamad al Badi, Director of the Emergency Cases Centre, said that the medical response sector has instructed the health establishments in governorates concerned to keep their staff and equipment ready for prompt handling of emergency cases.
The medical response sector also cautioned the respective health establishments against the probable occurrence of power cuts, disconnection in water supplies, or chances that rainwater might gush into houses. The establishments were directed to activate the vaccination plan and be prepared to transfer patients whenever necessary.
