Depression fizzles into low pressure

The tropical depression has weakened to a low pressure area on Monday with continuous flow of clouds over most of the governorates of Oman, with rainfall of varying intensity over the governorates of South Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta and parts of Dhofar Governorate.


By 2 am on Monday, rain of varying intensity accompanied with active winds were experienced over parts of the Governorate of Muscat.


The Met office said: “It is not a tropical system now and it is a low pressure with focus on South Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta.”


Meanwhile, the National Committee for Emergency Management denied one of the viral videos which have been circulating in the social media. It said that there is no truth in the video clip circulating on social media about the impact of the tropical situation.


Meanwhile, along the coastal areas of the Arabian Sea winds are expected to be southwesterly moderate to northeasterly light to moderate during the day along the coastal areas of Sea of Oman becoming light at night, while over rest of the country it will be southerly to southeasterly light to moderate occasionally fresh in open areas.


On Tuesday the weather forecast stated that partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected over all governorates with chances of rain in South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and south of Muscat. Chance of cloud development and isolated rain over Al Hajar Mountains and adjoining areas towards afternoon. Partly cloudy skies along the coastal areas of Dhofar Governorate and adjoining mountains with intermittent drizzle occasionally isolated rain. There are chances of blowing dust over desert and open areas.


DAILY MEETINGS


The Maritime Security Centre (MSC) held its daily meetings to review the latest developments regarding the tropical depression in the Arabian Sea and its effects on navigation and traffic in commercial and fishing ports.


The meetings also address means of activating different military, security and civil units during the tropical depression. The MSC activated its Operations Chamber since the tropical depression’s preliminary indicators.


The MSC follows up on developments and coordinates with other departments concerned with maritime security.
