Muscat: Oman clinched five medals on the concluding day of the second edition of the West Asian Youth Championship, which was hosted by Lebanon from July 3-6.
The Oman contingent had participated in three disciplines of sprint, throw and jump in the event where a total of 10 teams were in the fray.
Oman national star Mobin al Kindi was crowned with the gold medal in the hammer throwing competition, while Alia al Mughiri won the long jump gold in the women’s section.
Nami al Busaidy won the silver medal in the high jump competition, Oman national runner Alaa al Zadjali won the bronze medal in the 100m race in women’s competition.
While the Oman walking team won the bronze medal in the 1,000 metres through the player Khalid al Siyabi race in his first outdoor participation.
The stars of the Oman teams started to participate in the championship through the runner Khalid al Siyabi in a race with 10,000 metres.
Where runner Ahmed al Abdulsalam participated in the 110 metres hurdles, the runners Moayyad al Salami and Ahmed al Abdulsalam participated in the 200 metre race.
The runners Moayyad al Salami and Hamza al Jabri participated in the 400 metre race, the runner Abdulaziz al Habsi participated in 800 metre, and in the 1,500 metre race was Adnan al Shezawi and in the high jump competition were Namir al Busaidy and Ayham al Hosni.
As for the girls’ team, the runners Alaa al Zadjali and Sheikha al Hinai participated in the 100 metres race, and runner Alaa al Zadjali in the 200 metres competition. For the long and high jump competition Alia al Mughiri and Sheikha al Hinai made their presence felt. The two archers Afnan al Balushi and Maryam al Shukaili participated In the hammer throwing.
