Oman's Met Office warns of heavy rains, hailstorm

Muscat: Civil Aviation Authority of the Sultanate of Oman has issued precautions to be taken due to the expected heavy thunderstorms that are forecast to take place On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.


In some of the areas the expected rainfall could range between 20 to 80 mm within the next 24 hours.


The authority has particularly requested the public to check the report on sea state before sailing. Thunderstorms and rains are expected to continue during the afternoon and evening over Al Hajr Mountains and the adjacent areas of the governorates of North and South Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, North and South Al Sharqiyah and may extend to the plains and desert areas of the governorates of Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah and North Al Sharqiyah.


The thunderstorms with hail are expected to cause flash floods. The statement also warned that down draft wind ranging between 20 to 40 kn could cause movement of unstable objects.


There is also an alert for decrease in horizontal visibility. The sea state Is reported to be rough along the Arabian Sea with maximum wave height of four meters. While rest of the coast is moderate with a wave height of two meters.
