Wear a hat of a leader!

Leadership is a common terminology which is not accurately understood by many. Else, it is sometimes not even reflected on people’s attitudes and behaviours. Many, especially those in leadership position, are giving a cold shoulder to what leadership signifies! Probably, the way they act as bosses could be attributed to their ignorance or carelessness!

Regardless of the reasons, it is an unprofessional way of wearing the leader’s hat. Hence, they stand as a boss, not a leader. Possibly, their ultimate goal of being a boss is just limited to simply managing a team or a group of people in an organisation. They, perhaps, lack management skills and competences, which assist them to manage their team properly. To tell the truth, a leader is the one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way.

Ironically, such kind of bosses are many, being misplaced in different organisations and positions! They stand as a burden to their employers. On the other hand, they are giving others a cold shoulder and missing things up sometimes. Those bosses are an obstacle demotivating colleagues as well as depressing and irritating them.

Likewise, those bosses could even impact the productivity of their teams and eventually affect the overall performance of their organisations. Their negative vibes, which they spread all over among others spoils the spirit, commitment and enthusiasm of other employees. Besides, they interfere in other’s business and tasks, trying to micromanage them in a very unprincipled way. Perhaps, this is due to their lack of confidence and reliance on employees.

What is even worse is that they are unfair with their teams in regards to getting their rights. They are being aggressive and selfish; it is totally intolerable! Just imagine how one can work with such a frustrating boss with inhuman feelings and attitude. In other words, they are not even good to lead themselves, so how could they lead others!

Reflecting on this, do you think giving those bosses special courses on leadership and management where they can learn some good skills will have an impact?! It could be a useful way to reshape their attitude, but there is no guaranteed outcome. However, it’s worth trying as it might change some bosses to a better version of them. Therefore, organisations with such strange bosses should take it seriously and put them under intensive training!

A key thing a boss should understand is that before taking a chance and risk of leading others, a boss needs to clearly understand leadership. It involves making sound and sometimes difficult decisions, creating and communicating a clear vision, establishing achievable goals and providing followers with the knowledge and tools necessary to achieve their objectives. Leadership is not a title, but a behaviour that one needs to live and act accordingly.

Leadership is the art of motivating a group of people to act towards accomplishing a shared goal. In a business setting, this can mean directing colleagues with a strategy to meet the organisation’s needs. In this regard, a great leader knows how to both inspire people and get followers to complete the tasks that achieve the leader’s goal. Hence, a leader leads by example and not by force and making an example of others.

Dear bosses, if your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a real leader. Therefore, just be humble and responsible for the mission you are assigned too. Promote the good chemistry and spread the teamwork spirit among employees and rest assured that they will spare no effort to bring about their best to the organisation. The difference between a boss and a leader is that a boss says “go”, while a leader says “Let’s go”.
