Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman celebrated the Gulf Youth Day, represented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, which falls on June 6 of each year. The day was dedicated for Gulf youths at the 35th GCC summit in March this year, which shows the great interest of the leaders on the future generations.
The ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information.
Basil bin Ahmed al Rowas, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports Youth said that marking the GCC Youth Day is an opportunity to promote the role of youth and to celebrate their achievements in various fields. It is also a platform to honour senior leaders who contributed to the support accorded to youth.
The event celebrates the potential of youths of the GCC in advancing social progress and appreciation of the pioneering role played by the Omani youth in various spheres. It also motivates youths to strive for excellence, achieve more creativity and innovation.
The minister honoured 12 youths well as 30 high performing athletes.
To mark the Gulf Youth Day, the finals of a two-day debate tournament will kick off on Monday at the Nizwa Cultural Centre. A dialogue session will be held via video conferencing on youths and jobs. In Manah Cultural Centre, a financial awareness initiative will be held, which targets 40 participants. A lecture demonstration on the basics of photography will also be held.
The GCC Youth Day is a testimony to the role of pioneering youths in building nations. It also comes within the framework of activating joint cooperation among the GCC youth to advance societies.
