MUSCAT: Oman’s women Padel team clinched the gold medal on the conclusion day of padel competition under way at the third GCC Games in Kuwait on Sunday. The ceremony was held in presence Taha al Kishry, Secretary General of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) beside attendance of Dr Saleh bin Amer al Kharousi, Oman’s Ambassador to the State of Kuwait. The triumph of Oman national team for the women’s Padel came after defeating of Kuwaiti side, the host of the tournament, which came in second place. The UAE padel team finished in third place.
Oman’s Padel team commenced their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Saudi Arabia while in the following game they beat UAE team with a score of 1-2. In third fixture, Oman’s women managed to beat Bahraini team 1-2 and finally they were crowned with a deserved victory as they blanked the hosts Kuwaiti team 2-1.
The national women’s basketball team (3X3) concluded their journey on Saturday in the tournament. The team began their journey in the competition with a 12-9 loss against Kuwait team. In the following game which was held at the Sheikh Saad Al Abdullah Al Sabah Complex, they suffered to a 12-16 loss from Qatar team. The third defeat was from Bahrain team which ended the game at 10-21 while they lost against UAE team 7-18 in the concluding match.
Volleyball Competition
The Omani national volleyball team bagged bronze medal on Saturday at the end of the volleyball competition. The winning of bronze medal resulted after defeating Saudi Arabia team with a scoreline of 3-0. The first set ended at 25-22 while the gap was two points in the second set at 27-25 and it ended at 25-23 in the last set. Qatar team won first place and grabbed the gold medals as they registered a 3-0 win over UAE team. Bahrain team won the second place and gained silver medals as they managed to beat the hosts Kuwait team 3-2. Kuwait team positioned in the fourth place while Saudi Arabia team came in fifth place and UAE positioned in the bottom of the group.
Oman national team had played five matches in the competition. The team lost in the opening match against Qatar with a score of 0-3. Then, they defeated Kuwait team 3-2 and lost again by Bahrain team 3-1. Later, they blanked UAE team 3-0 and then ended their competition with a victory over Saudi Arabia.
The hosts Kuwait maintained their lead of the medals rankings in the third GCC Games as they topped by 77 medals including 28 gold, 22 silver and 27 bronze. Bahrain remained in second place as they have 56 medals including 20 gold, 21 silver and 15 bronze. UAE placed in third place after raising its tally to 42 medals including 17 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze. Qatar came in fourth place with 46 medals including 14 gold, 19 silver and 13 bronze while Oman returned to fifth place with 29 medals including 12 gold, 5 silver and 12 bronze. Saudi Arabia dropped to sixth and last place with 53 medals including 11 gold, 18 silver and 24 bronze.
