Bids invited to develop two castles in Musandam

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism invited bids for the management and operation of the Bukha castle in the Musandam Governorate. The last day to receive bids is Thursday (June 23, 2022). The move is part of the ministry's efforts to benefit from the tourism and heritage components to enable the local community to benefit from it and create a permanent partnership with it by providing the opportunity to invest in heritage sites affiliated with the ministry.


The ministry explained that the investor will be given a grace period of up to three years from the rental value. It also announced earlier that it had already started receiving applications for management, operation and employment of Khasab castle in Musandam.


The ministry called on companies to submit a request expressing their desire to confirm the management, operation and employment of these forts and castles and to present an action plan for how to develop and manage the sites, providing a visualisation of how to restore and diversify the use of buildings, spaces and rooms of outstanding historical importance.


It also called for the necessity of presenting the historical dimension of the prestige of the governorate in general and the castles in particular, highlighting their architectural wealth while marketing them commercially for cultural and heritage tourism.


It asked to determine the guided tours of the castles, lanes and markets, conducting workshops and short courses to transfer knowledge and experience to younger generations. It asserted to involve the local community in various cultural and social events and highlighted the castles' tourism value and economic feasibility.


The ministry seeks to employ castles and forts to be permanent museums that tell the history of the governorates so that visitors can explore the origins, history and geography of respective wilayats, their scholars. It also aims to explore the social, political and economic impact while working to highlight the Omani architecture exhibitions to highlight the history of architecture in the Sultanate of Oman.


It also involves the local community in developing castles and forts, water springs, and ancient monuments, developing beaches and providing public services, which contributes to making the Sultanate of Oman a tourist destination in the region and the world.
