Oman to host third GCC Beach Games in 2025

Muscat: Oman will host the third edition of GCC Beach Games in 2025, it was announced on the sidelines of the third GCC Games in Kuwait on Wednesday.


The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Fahd bin Jalawi with the participation of the Oman Olympic Committee Secretary-General Taha bin Suleiman al Kishri.


The heads of the Olympic committees of GCC announced that Oman will host the GCC Beach Games in 2025, the UAE will host the first edition of the GCC Youth Games in 2023, the GCC Martial Arts and Indoor Games will be held in Saudi Arabia in 2024, while the fourth edition of the GCC Games will be held in Qatar in 2026.


At the GCC Games in Kuwait City on Wednesday, Oman beat UAE 3-1 ( 29-27, 19-25, 25-20, 25-18) in volleyball.


With the win, Oman brightened their chances for a medal as one match left for the team on Friday against Saudi Arabia.


Oman futsal team concluded its journey in Kuwait with a 3-1 loss from the hosts Kuwait team.


3. Kuwait won the gold after beating Bahrain 2-1. Saudi Arabia took the silver and Bahrain claimed the bronze after winning against UAE 4-1.


Oman padel team will meet Saudi team on Thursday at the Kuwait Padel Complex. The Oman women's team is one of the favourites to win the gold. The team, which includes star player Fatma al Nabhani, had won the title of the Gulf Women's Padel Cup in the UAE in March.



BRONZE IN E-GAMES


Oman claimed a bronze in electronic games on Tuesday to make total medal tally to 27.


The bronze medal in the 'Fifa 22' game was earned by the Oman team consisting Saleh al Ghassani and Fahd al Hasani. This is the second bronze medal for Oman in electronic games competition after Sarah al Amri won the first bronze in the 'Fifa 22' game.


In addition, the round of 16 matches of the tennis tournament resulted in Issa Qabazard winning over Qatar's Musa Shannan 6-3, 6-1, Abdulhamid Mubarak beating Qatar's Mubarak Shanan 6-1, 6-1, and Badr Antar overcoming Bahrain's Hassan Abdulridha 6-3, 6-0.


Ali al Shatti lost to Qatar's Rashid Nawaf 4-6, 4-6 and Hussein al Shatti lost to Saudi Arabia's Abdullah al Faraj 5-7, 3-6 and Saudi Arabia's Saud al Haqbani beat Bahrain's Youssef Qaed 6-1, 6-2. His compatriot Omar al Haqbani beat Qatar's Issa Shanan 6-0, 6-2 and Saudi's Sulaiman al Qasim beat UAE's Abdulrahman al Janahi 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.


In table tennis, Qatar defeated Kuwait 3-0, while Saudi Arabia blanked UAE with the same score.


Qatar lead the standings with 6 points, followed by Saudi Arabia (4), Kuwait and Bahrain (3) and the UAE (2).


In the women's cycling competition, UAE swept the medals in the 49.7 km race held in Jaber Bridge.


Sheikha Rashid claimed the gold, Safia al Sayegh took silver and Huda Hussein won the bronze.


In the women's team category, the UAE won the gold, Saudi Arabia took silver and Kuwait claimed the bronze.
