Stressing on the remarkable relations and historical ties going back to the 16th century between the Sultanate of Oman and Turkey, the Embassy of Turkey, in cooperation with the Turkish Airlines and the Muscat Grand Millennium Hotel launched the Turkish Culture and Cuisine Week starting from May 21 until May 27, 2022.
This collaboration is the fruit of the trustful and deep-rooted political relations, 1.5 billion dollar trade volume and economic relations, besides the strong cultural ties between the two countries.
Oman is the oasis of peace and wisdom. Turkey is the cradle of civilisation with their centuries of old history. Nothing will show these relations better than this cultural occasion.
Turkish Cuisine Week aims to showcase Turkish dishes with all their original qualities. The event is simultaneously celebrated with promotional events in Türkiye and abroad.
The gastronomy book titled “Turkish Cuisine With Timeless Recipes“, was published under the leadership of First Lady Emine Erdoğan and under the auspices of the Presidency with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism aims to promote the richness of Turkish cuisine to a global audience.
Published in Turkish and English, the book presents 218 recipes for healthy, traditional and zero-waste dishes. It sustains a waste-free, ecological and sustainable way of nutrition in a world that is rapidly changing, bringing unhealthy diets to human beings.
In this event, an award-winning Turkish Chef Sinem Özler, who has also contributed to the Timeless Recipes book, is also invited to Muscat for introducing this unique outlook to the Omani people.
The week will highlight the cultural and gastronomical dimensions of Türkiye. Throughout the week, the most distinguished delicacies of the traditional Ottoman Turkish cuisine prepared by the award-winning Chef Sinem Özler and her team will be presented. Additionally, talented representatives of traditional Turkish arts will make demonstrations of their art during the week at Muscat Grand Millennium Hotel. For water marbling, artist Mr Önder Cankurtaran who is also an artisan of prayer beets; for miniature, Mrs Halime Karataş; for traditional Turkish tiles Mrs Gizem Kanbur will present us their talents.
Alongside this gastronomy week, Bait Al Zubair Museum holds two great collections of art. Exhibition of Calligraphy and Illumination by Mr and Mrs Hüsrev and Naciye Subaşı titled “Al Multazim”; and, Istanbul Paintings exhibition by artist Mr Selahattin Kara from Mr Mehmet Çebi’s collection.
The exhibition of “Al Multazim” is a fascinating representation of traditional Turkish calligraphy and illumination art. Naciye Subaşı, born in Istanbul, started studying the art of Illumination (tezhip) in 1980 in the Illumination Workshop at Kubbealti Academy, Istanbul.
In an attempt to carry the Ottoman style of Turkish Illumination and Decorative Arts to the present day, the artist reinterprets this classical style through her own original understanding and creativity.
She has participated in numerous local and international art exhibitions. The artist won the third prize in the International Contest of Al Burdah Award (UAE - 2008). Her work of Hilya won the first prize in the International Contest of Al Mahabba Awards (Abu Dhabi - 2008).
Istanbul Paintings by Selahattin Kara is a unique collection portraying the hidden beauties of the city of Istanbul with an authentic style. Kara received his formal artistic training in the famous Atatürk Education Institute - Fine Art Department. Worked as an art teacher between 1979-1984, Kara then decided to devote himself entirely to art production. Having always been fascinated by the city of Istanbul and its people, he naturally chose them as his subject.
There are some other activities hosted this week like “The Art of Calligraphy and Calligrapher Ottoman Sultans” lecture at Bait Al Zubair on May 23rd and the renowned Turkish musician Mr Sedat Anar and his band will give a breath-taking concert on the same day at Bait Al Zubair.
