The Ministry of Health (MoH) on Tuesday launched yet another campaign against Aedes Aegypti in Bausher and Al Seeb with the support of volunteers from different corners of society to visit houses and commercial establishments in Al Seeb, Al Ansab and other parts of Bausher.
The campaign, which is carried out in cooperation with the Muscat Municipality and other local bodies, has nearly 200 volunteers.
Speaking to the Observer, a spokesperson from the MoH said that this campaign to eradicate the breeding of dengue-fever carrying mosquito by the ministry in collaboration with Muscat Municipality and the relevant stakeholders is in pursuance of the other campaigns launched earlier.
"Various male and female volunteers would visit households, construction sites and other areas susceptible to mosquito breeding and take immediate steps to clear them off besides educating the local people around," she said.
The launching ceremony was held in the presence of Dr Tamra al Ghafri, Director0General of Health Services, Muscat Governorate, and the Wali of Bausher and a number of members from Majlis Ash'shura and Municipal Councils, in addition to officials from Muscat Municipality, and community members at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque area.
The MoH began the campaigns in January and called upon all citizens and residents to activate the community role to eradicate breeding sites of Aedes Aegypti and to cooperate with the field teams involved in the campaign for the same.
Moreover, the Ministry of Health and the Municipality called on everyone to seek information from reliable sources and ignore rumours. Citizens and residents can communicate with the Ministry of Health's Contact Centre and the Muscat Municipality Contact Centre for any queries.
Meanwhile, several households and nearly 25,000 facilities that included commercial outlets have been successfully disinfected as part of the Muscat Campaign for Elimination of Aedes Aegypti Mosquito in the wake of the cases of dengue reported in some parts of the governorate last year, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).
A fine of RO 300 will be imposed on owners of buildings for failing to comply with general cleaning, pest control and disposal of waste properly, while given three days to correct the violation. The fine is doubled if the violation is repeated.
