MUSCAT: Oman national hockey team will meet Uzbekistan in their final group stage match in the Asian Games 2022 Qualifier in Thailand on Thursday.
Oman, who had already qualified to the Asian Games in China, top the Pool A with 9 points in the Asian qualifiers being held in Thailand from May 7 to 15.
Nine teams are taking part in the qualifier tournament, divided into two groups. Pool A included Oman, Thailand, Hong Kong, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Pool B included Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Singapore.
In their group matches, Oman started with a 3-0 thrashing of Kazakhstan. Rashad al Fazari, Fahd al Lawati and Akram Ashour were the scorers.
In the second match, Oman sinked Hong Kong 5-1. Khaled al Shuaibi and Rashad al Fazari netted two goals each while Fahd al Lawati scored one goal for Oman.
In a tight match against the hosts, Oman edged Thailand 1-0.
On Thursday, four matches will be played.
Oman meet Uzbekistan, Indonesia play Sri Lanka, Bangladesh take on Singapore and then Hong Kong will face Thailand. The final matches in the qualifiers will be held on Saturday and Sunday.
