After two years, Juma Market in Wadi Kabir received Eid shoppers on Friday. The Friday before Eid also makes it special.
The Eid markets are where people can purchase the last minute Eid specialities. Vendors at the open market were energetic even while fasting and enthusiastic under the shade beating the midday glare of sun as they received customers and eagerly looked forward to them arriving after iftar.
“We will be here till night. But the livestock market will continue for three days,” said Fahad al Hadi, who has been doing business at Juma Market for the last 15 years. “Business is good,” he said.
The Juma Market has the usual products but now with an extensive collection of Abayas, Dishdasha for children, sandals for men, rings, Jewellery, semi precious stones, Omani Khamis for women, footwear for women etc.
Khalifa al Wohaibi has been selling at the Juma Market for 33 years and now he has two shops. He sells curtains, covers, majlis and is happy receiving customers who want something special for their home on Eid days.
“We are expecting more customers in the evening and we will be here till 9 pm. Today so far the customers have been first class. We are back for Eid after two years due to the pandemic. I am very happy. We have both customers - nationals and expatriates. I enjoy talking to them and they like to come back too,” said Khalifa who continues to work in the private Sector for the last 33 years and at the same time worked at Juma Market each year.
Ask him what would he like to say to the public and he said, “Come to Juma Market every Friday. Come to Wadi Kabir!”
