The holy month of Ramadhan is all about compassion, solidarity, understanding and helping each other on the path to knowing the hunger and thirst of each other.
In the Holy Quran, Almighty Allah has said, "O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Aware."
The ways of enhancing human interactions and unity among His creatures, mass prayers, social iftars, sharing food, helping the weak, orphans, destitute and the zakat stand testimonies to the same.
Prophet Muhammad, May Peace Be Upon Him, said, "Unity brings people together, creating love, harmony and generosity between them. As believers, we can use unity as a platform to spread kindness to others, as well as an opportunity for our spiritual growth to become closer to Allah."
"Islam calls for unity because it is the basis for happiness, progress and hardly any nation can achieve progress or enjoy welfare unless its people come together, a sermon by Mufti Menk has noted.
With this in mind, a call to non-Muslim communities is made by the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious to assemble and get to know about fasting, feel the spirit of fasting and understand the values of the same.
"Have you tried fasting? If not, we are pleased to invite you to “Let's fast together” initiative. On the 9th day of Ramadhan, any non-believer can try to fast on and feel the camaraderie of iftar with scores of others'', said a spokesperson from the ministry.
The event, happening within the initiatives of the Dar al Ritaj Foundation and the Metro Muscat Foundation, in cooperation and supervision of the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs represented by the Department of Islamic Information, all expatriate communities in the Sultanate of Oman can come under one roof to “Let us fast together” event 1443 AH.
"This is a call to all non-Muslims communities who have not fasted before but want to live the experience of fasting and enjoy the Ramadhan atmosphere with us and iftar during the event'', he added.
The evening which will be held at the Prince’s Palace Banquet Hall, in Al Seeb from 5 pm on April 11 will be in English, and it includes religious lectures, discussion panels on introducing Islam and educational films about introducing Islamic tolerance.
