Oman to host mega forum for power and energy professionals

Key platform: IEEE Power Talks to take place at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre during June 6 – 8, 2022

The Oman Chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world's largest technical professional organisation, is preparing to host the the biggest technical gathering of power and energy professionals in the Sultanate of Oman in June.


The event, dubbed IEEE Power Talks, will take place at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre during June 6 – 8, 2022. It will be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals with the support of Nama Group and a host of other key industry stakeholders.


IEEE Power Talks will bring together industry stakeholders and partners, CEOs and young professionals to share knowledge and fuel innovation in the ever-changing energy landscape. The event will also feature a wide array of power systems and energy solutions including power generation, transmission and distribution as well as green energy applications such as hydrogen, wind and solar.


Besides highlighting the latest innovations and technology advancements across the power and energy sector, the forum will also include plenary sessions and technical workshops. Furthermore, it will showcase new technologies in power generation, transmission and distribution. Dedicated sessions will also focus on energy efficiency, energy storage and related themes.


Deliberations during the three-day event will centre around five key pillars: (I) Market and polices updates: Regulatory Aspects, Electricity Market and Power System Economics; Future of power grids; Intermittent Distributed Energy Resources and Network Integration; How Hydrogen-Fuelled Renewable Energy projects will effect the grid; Smart Grids and Infrastructure Challenges; and Utility Scale Cybersecurity. (II) Renewables and energy storage solutions: Renewable energy projects in Oman; Cutting Edge Storage Options; Evaluating the Reliability Benefits of Battery Storage on Distribution systems; Renewable Energy Systems and Power Electronics; and Electric Vehicles and Energy Storage.


(III) Energy management and efficiency: Smart Metering and Safety; Energy Management System and Demand Side Management; Customer Behaviour and Attitudes; and Agent-based and Self-Organising Solutions for Smart Grids (IV) Asset management and optimisation: System Control, Wide-Area Monitoring and Protection; Predictive analysis and maintenance; Fixable operations; Transitioning from Operations to Technology; and Forecasting problems and Virtual Power Plant.
