Oman Open Padel Championship concludes successfully

As many as 100 players representing 55 teams took part in the first edition of the Oman Open Padel Championship which concluded recently.


The two-day event was under the organisation of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth in coordination with Padel Masters in Seeb club.


Padel, recent popular sports in Oman and GCC, is a racket sport and it is a combination of squash and tennis sports. The scoring in Padel is the same as normal tennis and the balls used are similar but with a little less pressure. The national Padel Championship featured four categories including juniors, middle level, advanced level and women category.


The organisers of the tournament aimed to introduce Padel sport in the Sultanate of Oman. Also, the event was the initial official tournament for Padel and it was a great opportunity for the officials to select the best faces to represent the Sultanate of Oman in abroad events.


The duo Ahmed al Barwani and Khalid al Barwani claimed the title of the first domestic Padel championship in the advanced category.


The winners won in the final match against Akthar al Riyami and Fawaz al Mandhari who were positioned as runner up. In the middle level category, Zahran al Mafdhali and Hisham al Ibrahim managed to lift the title after defeating the opponents Mutasim al Aoulakai and Khalid Tabook.


Hussain Sajwani and Mohammed al Lawati clinched the juniors category as they won against Azan al Khalil and Jihad al Khalieji in the concluding game. In the women’s category, Olisia and Silaventa manged to clinch the title after beating Lubna al Riyami and Mozna Abdullah in the final clash.


At the end, His Highness Sayyid Ali bin Ghalib al Said, the chief guest delivered the awards to the top winners in all the categories. The concluding ceremony was attended by Saud Ambo Saidi, the deputy General Manager of Sports Activities in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and other officials.


Earlier in March, Oman women’s padel team took part in the GCC championships which took place in Qatar. The team claimed the title of the event in the women’s category.
