MUSCAT: Salalah Club won the first place and the title of the Oman Open Water Swimming Championship in its 14th edition, which was held in Musandam, with the participation of 67 swimmers representing 15 clubs.
The tournament was sponsored by Dr Saud bin Hamoud al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, in the presence of Shaikh Ahmed bin Ali al Habsi, Wali of Daba, and Taha bin Sulaiman al Kishry, President of the Oman Swimming Federation.
The tournament included four rounds, which were run by a national jury, leaded by the international jury Abdul Moneim bin Khamis al Alawi and 19 Omani judges.
Salalah Club achieved first place in the overall club standings with 107 points, Jaalan Club came in second with 90 points, and Majees Club achieved third with 88 points.
In the junior category race (13 and 14 years) for a distance of 1 km, the main title was won by swimmer Ali bin Adel al Hasani from Salalah Club.
The swimmer Adel bin Mubarak al Ruwaihi from Jaalan Club came in second and Shihab bin Ahmed al Battashi from Masirah Club reached third place.
In the youth category race (15 to 17 years) for a distance of 2 km, Nasser bin Saif al Kindi from Salalah Club managed the first place, Adam bin Salim al Raisi from Majees Club came in second, and Mishaal bin Salem al Kulaibi from Jaalan Club in third.
In the general category race for a distance of 2 km, Abdul Rahman bin Yahya al Kulaibi from Salalah Club took first place, Ayman bin Talib al Qasimi from Jaalan Club came in second, and Nayef bin Munir al Qasimi from Bausher Club claimed the third.
In the 500-metre Masters category, Ibrahim bin Marhoon al Kulaibi won the first place, Ahmed bin Khalfan al Falahi came second, and Adnan bin Abdullah al Khadouri is the third winner.
