Al Amri targets podium in Kuwait rally

MUSCAT: Oman rally driver Zakaria al Amri along with his navigator Mohammed al Amri is eyeing a podium finish in Group N of the Kuwait International Rally, the third round of Middle East Rally Championship (Merc).


The Kuwait rally will be held from March 17 t0 20.


Al Amri is currently in the second position of group N ranking on his Subaru Impreza (N14) in the championship after finishing Qatar International rally second behind Kuwaiti driver Meshari al Thefairi.


Al Thefairi changed to R5 in Kuwait International Rally on Skoda Fabia, Al Amri has the chance to climb up to lead the group if he finish the rally on top.


The Kuwait rally will resume after three years of stoppage due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2019 late cancellation. It will consist 10 special stages, two of them in desert area.


Young Omani driver Abdullah al Rawahi is in the second place overall in Merc standings behind Qatari superstar Nasser al Attiyah. Al Rawahi will hope to continue his excellent performance to be on podium in Kuwait.

Al Amri, who is supported by Oman United Insurance, Oman United Insurance workshop and Al Fayha real estate development, said he is working with his team to be ready for the rally.


The Kuwait rally is known for its desert and sandy stages.


“I am happy to be a part of Kuwait International Rally, thanks to the supporters and my team to make this participation happen. I'm really looking forward to this race, it is my first time in Kuwait and I hope for good performance with my car and look to end the rally on the podium,” the Omani driver said.


“I will do my best to attend all the races of Merc championship if I get enough support. And as you know automobile sport is very expensive and without the sponsorship you cannot do anything,” Al Amri added.
