SUR: Public relations students at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences-Sur (UTAS) launched an awareness campaign on child bullying titled "Do not extinguish their lights". The campaign aims to educate the community about the impact of childhood bullying and empower parents to deal with the situation. Dr Salma al Musharrafi, the Dean of the UTAS-Sur, released the campaign logo at the launch event held on the campus.

As part of creating awareness among the community, the campaign plans to offer seminars and workshops led by subject experts to parents and children. Inaugurating the campaign, Dr Salma said, "I am impressed by the campaign logo, especially the word "no" because it emphasises the campaign's theme -- not to extinguish their light; also the colours used in the logo are very contextual."

The logo represents the silhouette of a child accompanied by a flame of light with the campaign title.

Awareness campaigns are organised by public relations students annually as part of their practical learning on campaign planning and implementation. Students will choose socially relevant topics to prepare strategies and tactics to disseminate campaign messages to the identified target groups.

A month-long campaign will continue till the first week of April. Updates on various campaign activities are available on the social media accounts of the campaign.

The University of Technology and Applied Sciences-Sur (previously Sur College of Applied Sciences) is a government university that provides a range of applied sciences study programmes in Mass Communication, Information Technology and Applied Biotechnology.
